Structurally, the Burj Khalifa is designed with a tripartite Y-shaped floor plan geometry. The design was largely based on the Samsung Tower Palace Three, a Seoul skyscraper with a similar structure that Smith had previously worked on. Due to planning restrictions, the Palace Tower Three currently has 73 floors, although it was originally intended to have 93.
